Size:  Ladies' (Men's)

Materials:  approximately 3 oz. 4-ply worsted-weight yarn

Gauge:  5 stitches/7 rows = 1 inch

Suggested Tension:  7 or 8 EON on standard gauge machine; 4 on bulky

Closed cast-on 36 (40) stitches.  Knit 8 rows.  Carriage at right.

Set machine to Hold Position.

Short row down to 7 (9) stitches and back out for the heel.  For longer slippers, add 2 plain rows here.  Repeat short rows down to 9 stitches for both sizes.  Bind off by taking 6 or 7 stitches off on the latch tool at a time.  This gathers the bind-off.

Add pompons or knitted flowers at bind-off, or sew on a button.

Baby Slippers:

Cast on 20 stitches and knit 6 rows.  Short row down to 5 for heel and repeat for toe.  Decrease 6 stitches evenly across the row.  Knit 2 rows.  Bind off 4 stitches at a time.  Add cords on sides to tie.

For 2-3 year-old cast on 24 stitches.  Short row down to 5 for heel and repeat for toe.  Bind off 4 stitches at a time.

5-year size cast on 28 stitches.  Short row down to 5 for heel and repeat for toe.  Bind off 4 stitches at a time.
