Bulky Mitten

Step	Gauge: 4.5 sts. 6 rows = 1 in. Size (in.)	3 to 4	4 to 5	5 to 6	6 to 7	7 to 8	8 to 9

	Left Mitten
A	E-wrap cast on_____sts in 1x1 ribbing. Knit 1 row at T.3 SL I. Hang comb and weights. Change to SL II.	26	30	34	38	42	46
B	Continue ribbing to row_____. Transfer all sts to main bed.	10	12	14	16	18	20
C	T. 5 Knit _____rows. Tie contrast yarn at edges.	10	14	16	18	20	22
D	Put all except____thumb needles in hold.	5	6	6	7	8	9
E	Knit_____rows. If desired, hang a bobby pin on the yarn next to the mitten before knitting each row.	9	11	13	15	17	19
F	Short row by pulling 1 needle on same side as carriage to E position. K 1 row. Repeat from until_____needles left in work. Reverse short rows until all thumb stitches are in work.	3	4	4	5	4	5
G	Knit_____rows, picking up stitches from Step E to seam thumb as you go. Use bobby pins to pick up stitches opposite carriage.	9	11	13	15	17	19

I	Set carriage to hold. On side opposite carriage, place _______needles in hold.	13	15	17	19	21	23
J	Short row by pulling 1 needle on same side as carriage to E position. K 1 row. Repeat from until_____needles left in work. When you put last needle to HP, immediately put one needle opposite carriage back to D position before knitting row.	5	5	5	7	7	9
K	Continue putting one needle to D position opposite carriage each row until all needles are in work. Carriage will be at left and yarn end in middle of mitten. Cut yarn, leaving end about twice the width of the whole mitten for sewing.
	For right mitten, knit 1 extra row of ribbing, ending on left.
